The department was established as per Government Resolution dated 17 October 2016.

Objectives and Functions of the Department :-

    1. To develop Arts and Sports related curricula.
    2. To organize various trainings and workshops for professional development of teachers.
    3. To prepare annual action plans and budgets under Samagra Shiksha.
    4. To submit reports and information of departmental activities to senior offices.
    5. To take appropriate action on three major tasks assigned under the National Education Policy.
    6. To nominate teachers and officers for CCRT training as per prescribed norms.
    7. To take necessary action and correspondence on proposals received from the Core Committee.
    8. To implement various projects related to arts and sports with the help of social organizations.
    9. To organize Arts Festivals from school to state level and submit expenditure reports.
    10. To organize Band Competitions from school to state level.
    11. To organize Rangotsav programs from school to state level.
    12. To organize Fit India Movement from school to state level.
    13. To organize Yoga Olympiad competitions from school to state level.
    14. To organize Balrang Mahotsav from school to state level.
    15. To organize programs such as Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat, Har Ghar Tiranga, Meri Maati Mera Desh, and Mass National Anthem as per central government directives.
